2022 is here. As with any New Year, it brings with it the beacon of hope and a strand of opportunity for a fresh start, new goals and dreams, renewed efforts. It infuses in our step the spring of striving for new things, beginnings and forays. And at Healthwatch, although it’s always time to do the new, the excitement around 2022 is infectious, as reflected in the colourful 2022 calendar we released in mid December.
‘Infectious’ is not a good word these days, though, as the Omicron variant of COVID rears its head and threatens to return us to the dark days of lockdowns that started in 2020 and during the second wave in 2021.
A significant part of our population now vaccinated, the situation is unlikely to get as dire as those times, but we are taking no chances. We must stay vigilant, follow all the necessary protocols and stay safe and healthy both for our own sake as well as the sake of those who depend on us.
In healthcare we are at the forefront of the mission of helping people keep safe and healthy, and we must set an example by striving to dispatch our duties to the best standards without putting ourselves or anyone else at risk. Suitable measures are being taken even as this issue of Pulse goes to print, to facilitate this at every location.
Time will keep rolling and as we step into 2022, I hope the spirits of grit, fun and meaningful work will not be left behind, but be carried with us over the threshold of the year, and that we shall continue to be as forthcoming with what unique qualities we have to bring to the table, care for each other, and seek to spread the light of happiness, for that is true success.
It is the only type of success worth striving for that doesn’t feel like strife. And that, more than anything else, is what I wish for you in 2022.
